Murchison Falls National Park is locally known as Kabalega National Park. It is situated at the end of the Albertine Rift Valley and it is Uganda’s oldest and largest safari park.
Murchison Falls National Park is located 305 kilometers north of Kampala in Masindi District and can be accessed by road or flights. Murchison Falls National park was first gazetted as a wildlife reserve in 1926.
The park is home to 76 different mammal species and 451 birds. Murchison Falls Conservation Area is made up of Bugungu, Karuma wildlife reserves and Murchison Falls National Park.
Murchison Falls National park is bisected by the Victoria Nile, which plunges 45m over the remnant valley wall, creating the dramatic falls, the park’s unique attraction and the final event in an 80km stretch of rapids.
The mighty cascade drains the last of the river’s energy, transforming it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert. Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park

The 3 day safari to Murchison falls goes through the Luwero with a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. you will be here for Rhino tracking. This is home to the southern white rhinos.
Enjoy an hour of trekking the second largest of the land animals. This is before you proceed to Masindi. You will stop here for lunch before you proceed to the park.
Upon entry, drive to the top of the falls. Along the way you will see various animals such as warthogs, baboons among others.
You will have an amazing experience at the top of the falls. You will watch the magnificent falls squeezing through the rocks in an 8m gorge. Take as many photos as you can.
You will later drive to the jetty in time for the ferry across to paraa. Proceed to Paraa safari lodge to relax the whole evening. Dinner and overnight will be at your Murchison Falls Accommodation.
Murchison Falls National Park
Start the day on 3 day Safari to Murchison Falls National Park with an early breakfast. At 0700hrs your driver and the ranger guide will pick you up from the lodge.
During the drive you will be in position to see many animals. In your list of animals to see in Murchison are lions, buffaloes and giraffes. You should not miss elephants, antelopes, water bucks and birds among others.
After the game drive, drive back to the lodge at around 1140 hrs. You will have time to freshen up and relax awaiting lunch. This is in preparation for the afternoon boat cruise.
On the boat you will be able to see various Nile crocodiles and hippos. Along the banks are buffaloes, elephants as well as different beautiful birds.
Your birding list will have bee eaters, the coloured kingfishers and many others. For the lucky ones, the shoe billed stork would be a welcome trophy.
The boat ride will take you to the bottom of the Murchison Falls. At this point you will be able to see the mighty waterfalls well.
It is time to get off the boat and cut some calories with a hike. you will start from the bottom of the falls up the top. Meet your driver waiting for you at the top of the falls.
With game drive, drive back to your lodge for an evening or relaxation. Dinner and overnight will be at Paraa safari Lodge.
Murchison Falls National Park to Kampala
Start the day with breakfast at your Murchison Falls safari lodge. This is before you embark on the final Game drive after checking out.
It will be a great time as you look out for wildlife you did not see before. Among the obvious are buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, lions and antelopes. You should not miss some bird species too. Later, leave the park with a stop along the way for lunch. proceed with the journey reaching Kampala in the evening.
